Struck
If you go here and scroll down to 'Profiles' or even just click straight here, you'll witness first-hand the bad habit I have of saying 'It struck me that...'
Years ago when I was on my gap year I had to preach in church. That's a whole other story, but anyway I chose the evils of the National Lottery as my topic (!) and for weeks afterwards lots of the congregation would greet my presence by pretending to strike me on the head with something. Apparently it didn't drive the point home hard enough.
I'm a little unsure about the 'English writer living in Northern Ireland' thing too. My lovely editor suggested 'Irish writer...' on the basis that my mother is Irish and it's now where I live. I liked that but felt a little fraudulent so went with the English bit. Except I'm at least half Irish so now that doesn't seem quite right either. Let's just say if I never get published beyond this it'll probably be for the best. Can you imagine the dithering I'd do about what should go on the sleeve, never mind which profile pic should be used?!

What a great article! It struck me that... I should probably obtain either or both of these books & read them! ;-) It also struck me that... I've been turning over the same concept in my head lately -- about how having a career first does NOT actually help an achieving mother prepare for motherhood -- and as usual, you have so cogently expressed this thought that was just banging aimlessly around the caverns of my mind! I love how you do that!
Cheers.
