Highlight of today: discovering a viewing point a few minutes drive up the road. It’s usually my destination when I’m trying to get the boys to nap, but I realised the other day that it’s a little spot that gets positively flooded with afternoon sunshine, long after it’s disappeared from our back garden for the day. So we took a football and had an endorphin-fuelling kick-around for half an hour, slap bang in the middle of some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve seen. I kept looking around, a bit agog, wishing there was someone to witness the wonder of our very own private football pitch. I suspect it’ll become a favourite in the summer: it’s right up high on a cliff edge but completely fenced in, with picnic tables in just the right places for goals. Sounds a bit precarious now that I think about it but it’s really not. STUNNING views down to
Then we came home and played Cafe in the kitchen. I was the waitress and The Boy had a very particular drink request. He raised his hand aloft and said “Wait a minute, I got a brilliant idea,” in his usual way, and then suggested ‘chocolate milk at the bottom, then a bit of pink milk, all warm, with some sugar sprinkled on and then marshmallows’. His face was a picture when I obliged with the goods, served in grown up cups and saucers, with a chocolate coin perched on the side. I was going to say they didn’t tip very well but come to think of it they didn’t even pay... Still, I think ‘playing cafe’ will become a regular fixture when I’m trying to persuade them to eat their tea.
Then we made bird seed cakes and left them in the fridge, and tomorrow we’re going to hang them in the garden so we can watch the birds from the window.
The Boy just suggested we light the fire and make s'mores, a tradition started by his Dada, and I think that sounds like the most fabulous idea.
